Barnegat Fishing Report 6/25

Today we had Eric,Jarrett,Chris,Siade, and Steve on board from PA. We left the dock at 7am and decided to try for some bass, knowing that its been an early bite our back up plan was some fluke. We came out of Barnegat Inlet and headed north, looking for some pods of bunker. We ran into a nice size pod and immediately started snaging and droping.. But after having no hits we realized this pod had no bass under them and decided to move on..After snaging and droping a few more pods with no luck we decided to give the fluke a try..We first tried in about 24ft of water and were picking up some shorts and a skates. We then gave it a try in about 40-50ft and picked up two really nice size fluke. We could not get away from the sand sharks all day, although they are fun to catch we were not looking for them..We moved all over the place with no luck on the fluke but catching everything else skates, sea robins and sand sharks..Although we didn`t bring home alot of fish, the guys had alot of action and it seemed fun by all..The guys were great and we all had some good laughs. Thanks again guys...

6/19 Barnegat Fishing Report

Although my Father's Day didn't begin with spending time with my own boys, it began by fishing with a nice family, the Browns: David and his 3 children Holly, Christopher & Veronica.

We broke Barnegat inlet around 5:30 a.m. and headed north toward the bathing beach where there was plenty of bunker. We started snagging and dropping bunker and within a half hour we had our first striped bass in the boat weighing in just shy of 40 lbs. Dave handled that fish like a pro. What a way to start the day!

While chasing the bunker down, we landed another huge striped bass, 37 lbs. I thought we were on our way to a stellar fishing day when suddenly the pods of bunker started separating and the action died down. We even tried as far north as Seaside Heights where there were a few head boats, but nothing.

With no more striped bass action, we drifted and picked up some short fluke, skates and sand sharks. Before we knew it, the day was over and we had two nice sized striped bass to show for it.

I’d like to thank the Brown family for spending their day on the Bottom Line.

Barnegat Fishing Report

After hearing about some great bunker runs off Barnegat Inlet we loaded up and headed out yesterday. I talked my charter into trying and afternoon trip, sense they had something happen to them in the morning.  I don`t like to pat myself on the back but boy was that the right call!  Ran north, got into bunker off bathing beach, and filled up quickly. Bill O hooked a beautiful fish, our first of the day moments later on a live bait. We then got a call that the bunker were north, So we headed north, we found pods of bunker with  huge bass chasing them right out of the water. We were catching them on bunker both dead and alive, also the guys were having a blast using plugs my favorite. In about 5 hours we had caught about 25 nice fish with 2 topping out at 37 and 40 pounds..

It was a great afternoon...
